In 2022, Google will introduce the ability to co-watch videos on YouTube, curate playlists on Spotify, and play games together on Google Meet. Well, as per the latest strings of codes, YouTube Music is readying support for shared listening via Google Meet Live Sharing. This will allow you to co-listen to music on YouTube Music with your loved ones.

Speaking of this capability, in the YouTube app, you can co-watch videos and allow participants to interact with the content that is being shared via Google Meet Live Sharing. In the case of YouTube, the video appears in PiP (picture-in-picture) mode. According to folks at 9To5Google, in the latest version of the YouTube Music app version 5.42.50, there are a couple of codes for Live Sharing.

string name=”co_watch_status_bar_text”>You are live sharing in Meet</string>

string name=”co_watch_status_bar_ready_to_watch_text”>Choose content to use Live Share. Playback is synced.</string>

Do note that these strings of codes were found in an APK insight post, which means Google could bring the feature to YouTube Music or completely ditch it if it feels it isn’t worth it. The codes describe that there will be a status bar that will appear at the bottom of the YouTube Music app when the sharing or co-listening feature is active. One of the codes’ descriptions reads, “Choose content to use Live Share. Playback is synced.

On YouTube, you can turn on Live Share from within the Google Meet call. Else, you can head over to the video, open the system share menu, and select ‘Meet Live Sharing.’ So, the YouTube Music Google Meet Live Sharing feature should be as straightforward as it is for the YouTube app.
