Google accidentally confirms Pixel 8a’s existence

  • A Google executive has inadvertently revealed that a recently removed Android feature will be coming back on the Pixel 8a and newer devices.
  • This is the first time that the company has acknowledged the existence of the phone. Truth be told, the phone was never a big secret.
  • Going into the story, the revelation comes after several users reported the disappearance of the Battery information page within Settings > About Phone > Battery Information (via).
  • Responding to the same, a Google employee responded by saying that this page will be enabled “on Pixel 8a and beyond, so this is WAI (working as intended).”

The Battery Information page was earlier made available in early beta builds of Android 14 QPR1 last year but was interestingly removed in the recent Android 14 QPR2. This hasn’t offered much information on the battery except for the battery manufacture date and cycle count. With Google’s confirmation, it is clear that the removal of this feature was intended. But the good news is that this feature will be back with Pixel 8a and newer models.
