“There has never been a more quintessential Canadian experience than Gordon Lightfoot in concert at Massey Hall,” said Jesse Kumagai, Massey Hall president & CEO, in a statement released late Tuesday afternoon.

“Over 170 appearances, the chime of his twelve-string guitar and the iconic timbre of his voice reverberated throughout these walls, filling our hearts with stories of our nation, and enriching our lives immeasurably.”

Kumagai said Lighftoot, who began doing November residencies at Massey Hall in 1967 and more recently reopened the newly renovated hall in November 2021, may be gone but his artistry will live on.

“The world has lost one of its most profound voices, but his songs will play on and his soul will always be found at Massey Hall,” he said.

“We are eternally grateful for the man and his music, and that he made Massey Hall his home. May he rest in peace and harmony.”
