‘Harry Potter’ Series Scheduled to Premiere on Max in 2026

Warner Bros. Discovery’s forthcoming Harry Potter television series is on track to premiere on Max in 2026, according to CEO David Zaslav. The intended schedule was revealed during a fourth-quarter earnings call the company hosted on Friday morning, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I was in London a few weeks ago with [HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys] and [Warner Bros. Discovery TV chief Channing Dungey], and we spent some real time with J.K. and her team,” Zaslav shared about a recent meeting he had with Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling. “Both sides are thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”

The Harry Potter series entered the development phase in 2021 with plans to cover the events of all seven books in the franchise. When the studio officially green-lit the series last year, it revealed plans for the show to be released over the course of 10 years. “We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter,” Zaslav added. “The last film was made more than a dozen years ago.”

The decade-long commitment, from 2026 through 2036, be overseen by Rowling as executive producer. Last year, Daniel Radcliffe addressed the series in an interview with ComicBook, definitively sharing that he’s not looking to be involved in the production.

“My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh, and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere,” Radcliffe explained. “I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world, and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”
