Headie One’s Much-Anticipated Single, “Martin’s Sofa”, Has Arrived

0 34

For the past month or so, Headie One has been teasing out hints of his new single, “Martin’s Sofa”. The title, if you haven’t been following Headie on socials, refers to an old friend of his, Martin, who helped and supported the Tottenham rhymer through tough, pre-fame times, often letting him stay on his sofa.

Returning to said sofa then became a byword for having fallen on hard times. So the new track arrives as a tribute, of sorts, but that wasn’t all he did for Martin: just before Christmas, Headie returned to Martin’s flat to offer thanks and check in with his old friend.

True to his word, Headie then swung by Martin’s again on Christmas Eve to deliver a new and improved sofa.

Even without that endearing backstory, there’s no doubt this track would be a fan-favourite.

Produced by M1OnTheBeat, the instrumental samples Flatbush Zombies’ “Palm Trees” (which you may remember from the late Cadet’s legendary “Slut” freestyle). For the video—directed by Nathan Tetty—Headie pays tribute to Martin and his eponymous sofa once more, which features in the video. The whole thing’s dipped in a dark red hue as Headie relays stories from those early days with a few clips of early freestyles spliced in for added poignancy.

“Martin’s Sofa” is a moving tribute, but most of all, it’s Headie at his best. And if his bars on previous single “50s” are to be believed, “it might be the first single from my second”. So, new album when?
