And while the official sales are yet to commence in a few weeks, people are already excited about owning one. Within a month, Maruti Suzuki has collected over 15,000 bookings of the Jimny, affirming its success in the market. However, the three-door version of the Jimny is already available overseas, and we take a look at how good Jimny is to own and live with.

Most of the owners of the three-door Suzuki Jimny overseas bought it purely for two prime reasons – its cutesy looks and its impeccable off-road worthiness. A lifestyle off-road vehicle has to look the part – with loads of ruggedness and a heightened stance. The five-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny retains these attributes, with a touch of cuteness which is not much seen in off-road vehicles. And while the five-door Jimny looks longer with additional rear doors, the proportionality in its look and stance has not been compromised.

Despite the addition of extra doors resulting in a longer wheelbase, the five-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny is a sub-four metre compact SUV. The compact dimensions of the Jimny will allow it to be a friendly vehicle to drive in the hustle of the city traffic. Adding the large glasshouses of the Jimny all around, it will be easier to park and steer even in tight corners and areas.

Next comes the party trick of Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which makes it one exclusive offering in the Indian car market – the Allgrip four-wheel drive system. It is the smallest five-door SUV to get a 4×4, which should make things interesting for those who want a proper four-seater car with enough room on the inside, but at the same time, worthy enough to conquer the worst of terrains.

Another positive attribute is the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine under its hood. This naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine might not have the segment-leading power and torque figures. But given the light kerb weight of the Jimny, this engine should be a perfect match for the SUV. This engine has already worked wonders for the three-door Suzuki Jimny in other countries with decent performance and proven reliability. Even in India, this engine has an impressive track record in cars like Ciaz, XL6 and Ertiga.

However, with many positives on its side, there are some shortcomings which the Maruti Suzuki Jimny owners will have to live with. Despite the additional doors, the space at the rear is at a premium, and good for only two adults. Even the boot space is restricted – it is even smaller than that of the Ignis. And then, since it is based on a ladder-on-frame architecture, expect a bit of body roll at higher speeds. But these are some compromises which are not big enough and easily overshadowed by the charm and abilities of the five-door Jimny.
