Game of Thrones spinoff returns to HBO in summer 2024
HBO has shared the first look at the upcoming second season of Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon, arriving summer 2024.
Following its Emmy-winning (albeit disappointing) first season, Season 2 forecasts a brewing war between factions in the titular house. “There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin,” Rhaenys Targaryen warns in the trailer. “And no war so bloody as a war between dragons.”
HBO also revealed the new cast members on board for Season 2: Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne. They’ll join star Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell and Sonoya Mizuno.
House of the Dragon rewinds 200 years before the hit show takes place and is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” part of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. Although other planned Game of Thrones spinoffs haven’t made it past the pilot stage, HBO quickly showed confidence in House of the Dragon by awarding it a near-instantaneous second season renewal soon after the series premiere.
Despite the writers and actors’ strikes, Season 2 of House of the Dragon was not among the HBO properties — like new seasons of The White Lotus and The Last of Us — to face heavy postponements, with House of the Dragon making its summer 2024 release as promised.
