How to Build a Custom Kitchen Setup in Mahindra Thar for Camping and Road Trips

Mahindra Thar is one of the most popular SUV in the market. It is a popular choice among those who like to go off-road and also explore new places. It is extremely customisable and we have seen several videos already where people have installed roof top tents and kitchen setup to make the SUV more suitable for camping. Here we have a video where a Mahindra Thar owner removed the rear seats of the SUV and replaced it with a custom made kitchen setup to make his  SUV suitable for camping and road trips.

The video has been uploaded by Trip for Two on their YouTube channel. In this video, the owner of the Mahindra Thar shows how he built a kitchen setup at the back of his SUV. He starts by removing the rear seats of Thar.  He removed 4 bolts that were holding the seats in place. As we already know, Mahindra Thar doesn’t offer a large boot. This is why removing the rear seat was necessary for this project. Once the seats were removed, cabin looked a lot more open. The humps from the wheels are visible.

He then covered the floor or the SUV with a black carpet for a clean look. He then hired two carpenters and explained him the idea. They measured the space and cut plywood to create the base for the drawer. He made cuts to the wooden panel so that it sits on the floor neatly and makes working on it easier. The carpenters then build the whole cabinet outside the vehicle. There were two partitions to the box. One of them had all the essential and grocery items while the other one stores the gas stove. Once the cabinets were installed in place, the sliding cooking table was installed.

The owner of the Mahindra Thar was working with the carpenters to ensure that things were going the way he wanted. Once the cabinets and sliding cooking table was made, the owner took the kitchen setup out and completely painted it black. He then wrapped the whole cabinet with black carpet that he purchased online. This did give the whole setup a clean look. The kitchen setup is fixed on the same mounts that the seats were sitting on. This made the whole setup a lot more sturdy.

After the work was done, the owner did take the SUV for a small picnic to put the new cabinets to test. After removing the second row seat, the Thar had more space on the inside and this allowed the customer to create a spacious kitchen cabinet for his SUV. Till date we ahve only seen camping kitchen setups that are installed behind the rear row seats. Most people do not remove the rear seats in Thar as they use it for storing the luggage. In this case, the owner has created a small camping kitchen setup and if you really want to explore the outdoors, you can install a rooftop tents which would elevate the overall experience.
