Huawei will announce its Mate 50 series of smartphones on September 6. The company confirmed this via Weibo, a China-based social media network.

Huawei released an image mentioning the Mate 50 branding, and laid out a launch date along with it. If you take a look at the image provided below, you’ll also see a huge ring spanning from one hill to the other.

We’re not entirely sure what this means, but it could signalize a circular camera island on the back. Other than that, this image doesn’t really share much information, to be quite honest.

Huawei is expected to announce several smartphones as part of the series. That’s what happens every time, and the company obviously mentioned the ‘Mate 50 series’, not a single smartphone.

The company may announce four devices as part of the series

The Huawei Mate 50, Mate 50E, Mate 50 Pro, and Mate 50 RS have all been mentioned in rumors and leaks thus far. The Mate 50E will be a mid-range smartphone, while Huawei will market the other three as flagships, most likely.

A recent rumor suggested that Huawei may once again use the Snapdragon 888 with 4G, due to the US ban. Another rumor, that appeared prior to the weekend, hinted at the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, with 4G.

It remains to be seen what info is accurate. Neither of these phones leaked thus far, so their designs are still a mystery. We do expect to see the XMAGE camera branding on the back of each of those phones, though.

As some of you may know, Huawei and Leica are no longer partnered up. Leica is now in partnership with Xiaomi, so Huawei decided to kick off a new imaging brand for its devices.

These devices will likely be camera focused, and they will ship without Google services. Android 12 is expected to come pre-installed, along with the company’s Harmony OS.
