Huawei to start building factory in France next year

0 26

In 2020, Huawei announced that it would build a factory in France where the company would manufacture cellular network equipment. Since then, there has been no word from Huawei on the matter and no news around the topic, which suggests that the plan was dead. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, a new report from Reuters says that Huawei will start building that manufacturing plant next year, and it will be located in Brumath, which is near Strasbourg. Reportedly, the construction of the factory has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, there’s no information about when the construction of the factory will be completed. However, a source in the French government has said that the manufacturing plant was supposed to open in 2025. Now that the construction would be kicking off late, expect that timeline to be delayed as well.

When Huawei first revealed its plans for this factory, the company said that it would invest 200 million euros in building this manufacturing plant. Huawei had also revealed that the factory would employ 300 people initially and that number would go up to 500 in the long term. So far, Huawei is tight-lipped on the matter.
