Hunter Schafer was among a group of protestors who were taken into police custody on Monday during a demonstration planned to disrupt President Joe Biden‘s appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

The protest organized by the activist organization Jewish Voices for Peace took place at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the famed headquarters of NBC television in New York City where Late Night is taped.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that a total of 30 individuals were taken into custody and issued two summonses for trespass and disorderly conduct before they were released.

A Jewish Voices for Peace spokesperson confirmed the Euphoria star was among those detained. Pictures of the Cuckoo actor in handcuffs while being led away by police began circulating on Tuesday on social media.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Schafer’s reps about the incident but messages were not immediately returned.

The progressive Jewish anti-Zionist organization claimed more than 100 Jews and their allies were present at the protest at 30 Rock on Monday. On Tuesday, the group’s official account tweeted that “50 Jewish New Yorkers were just arrested disrupting @POTUS appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.” The group added that it was calling on “Biden to stop supporting the Israeli government’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.”

The group also sent out a press release saying that 50 people, including Schafer, were arrested.

“We commend Hunter Schafer’s commitment to Palestinian freedom and to a future of justice for everyone,” Jewish Voices for Peace’s communications director Sonya Meyerson-Knox told THR on Wednesday, noting that the organization is committed to holding protests and disruptions across the country.

As the president was inside the building preparing for his late-night appearance, protestors took over the 30 Rock lobby, chanting “Let Gaza live” and holding banners that read, “Never Again for Anyone,” according to the group’s release. The protest took place the day before the Michigan primary.

The president made the rare late night appearance in celebration of Meyers’ 10-year Late Night anniversary. His appearance was confirmed hours before his visit.

A long-time political activist, Schafer has been deeply involved in campaigns surrounding LGBTQ+ issues and came to national prominence while opposing North Carolina’s anti-trans legislation HB2, the so-called “bathroom bill,” in 2016.
