Hyundai Creta and Bajaj Pulsar are India’s most popular car and bike: New Study

India and its automotive market have been expanding at a rampant pace and over the years the vehicle buying patterns of the people in the country have changed a lot and different vehicles have now taken top spots in the list of vehicles sold in the country. Recently the automotive E-Commerce website – Droom which is also a technology and data science company, shared its annual report termed the “India Automobile Ecommerce Report 2022”. With this study and report it was found that the Hyundai Creta and the Bajaj Pulsar are the country’s most popular vehicles.

The study further revealed that the second most popular car in the country is the South Korean automaker Kia’s Seltos. Furthermore, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza has taken the third spot on the list. It is followed by the Toyota siblings – the Innova Crysta and Fortuner. As for the luxury cars in India, the Mercedes Benz E-Class holds the top spot. It is then followed by Jeep Compass, Mercedes Benz C-Class, BMW 5 Series, and finally the BMW X1. It was also revealed that the average new car price was Rs 11,99,017 meanwhile for the luxury cars the average was Rs 42,91,470.

It was also found that in terms of the two-wheelers, bikes remain the top choice for buyers in India followed by scooters. The most popular bike in the country is the Bajaj Pulsar and it is followed by Hero Splendor, Bajaj Pulsar NS, TVS Apache RTR, and Honda CB Shine. Additionally in terms of scooter the most popular model is the Honda Activa 5G. The runner ups in the scooter segment are Suzuki Access, TVS Jupiter and Honda Dio.

As for the superbikes popular in the country the top spot is taken by Royal Enfield Interceptor, followed by Harley Davidson Street Rod, Kawasaki Ninja ZX- 10R, Kawasaki Ninja and Benelli TNT 300. The average price of bikes Rs 55,037 and for the scooters it is Rs 46,500. Lastly the average retail price of superbikes sold in the country is Rs 6,93,582.

The study report further revealed that that petrol powered vehicles still remain as the top choice for the car buyers in the country with diesel in second spot and CNG+Petrol vehicles capturing the third spot. The report further stated that because of convenience and improved fuel efficiency, the percentage of automatic transmissions has also steadily increased from 23% in CY 2015 to 33% in CY 2022, up from 30% in CY 2021, and EV adoption in India remains stable at 1% of total vehicle sales across categories. Due to the car scrappage policy, which prohibits diesel vehicles older than 10 years from being driven on public roads, the percentage of diesel vehicles declined from 60% in CY21 to 53% in CY22.

Commenting on Droom’s annual automobile trend report CY 2022, Sandeep Aggarwal, Founder and CEO, Droom said, “The automobile trend report of 2022 shows steady growth in the overall automobile market. The report indicates an increasing acceptance towards online automobile buying and this will only grow in the coming years. There is also a gradual but steady adoption of electric vehicles which will expand in the coming future.”
