Hyundai Creta EV spotted testing without camouflage ahead of launch
Hyundai is reportedly developing an all-electric version of its most popular SUV in India, the Creta, to boost its electric mobility plans. The all-electric Creta has already been spotted being tested on Indian roads in a near-production form, and if recent reports are accurate, it will be available for purchase in India in 2024. While the sighting of the Creta EV has fueled the reports of the impending launch, industry insiders suggest that Hyundai wants to wait a few more months before launching the electric SUV.
The new Hyundai Creta EV will reportedly be based on the current internal combustion engine-powered version of the Creta, which comes with petrol and diesel engine options. Unlike the recently launched Ioniq 5, which is built on a platform designed for electric vehicles, the Creta EV will be based on the same platform as the petrol and diesel versions of the SUV.

The test mule of the Hyundai Creta EV was seen without certain features typical of all-electric vehicles, such as an exhaust pipe and a radiator behind the front grille. Although the SUV has been seen in near-production form and reports of its arrival in 2024 are circulating, Hyundai has not made an official confirmation of the same.
The current design of the ICE-powered Creta will be retained for the electric version, according to industry insiders. Hyundai is reportedly planning to launch a facelifted version of the Creta by the end of 2023. It remains to be seen whether the Creta EV will retain the exterior design of the current version or come with the new design elements planned for the facelifted version.
The arrival of the Creta EV, which is expected to be positioned similarly to the Kona EV, may coincide with the end of the current Kona EV’s lifecycle. It is anticipated that Hyundai may not launch an updated version of the Kona EV, but instead, replace it with the Creta EV, given the Creta’s massive popularity in India.
Although the Creta EV may replace the Kona EV in India, the former is expected to feature the Kona EV’s battery and motor setup. The India-spec Kona EV comes with a front-mounted 100 kW electric motor that produces 136 bhp of power and 395 Nm of torque, along with a 39.2 kWh battery pack that offers a maximum driving range of 450 km.
