Hyundai Exter waiting period extends to more than a year
In July 2023, Hyundai launched the Exter sub-compact SUV, and since its debut, it has been a resounding success for the Korean automaker. The all-new Hyundai Exter’s popularity is soaring each day, leading to significantly long waiting periods as per reports.
For the lower-spec EX and EX(O) variants of the Hyundai Exter, waiting periods have stretched up to 1 year in certain cities. The Exter range in India starts at an introductory price of Rs 5.99 lakh for the EX variant, but it is expected to increase shortly. Other variants like S, S(O), SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Connect are also experiencing waiting periods of up to 5-6 months.

With these extended waiting times, the Hyundai Exter is giving its direct rivals, such as the Tata Punch and Citroen C3, a run for their money. Additionally, the Exter is also denting the sales of similarly-priced compact hatchbacks and crossovers, including popular models like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ignis, Baleno, Fronx, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite. Surprisingly, it has even become more appealing than other Hyundai offerings with similar price tags, such as the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and i20.
The Hyundai Exter boasts a busy-looking, SUV-inspired design with an upright stance and high ground clearance. Sporting features like projector headlamps, H-shaped LED DRLs, LED inserts in the tail lamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, and all-around body cladding, the Exter’s design targets a younger audience.
Feature-rich cabin
Inside the cabin, Hyundai has furnished the Exter with a feature-rich setup, somewhat reminiscent of the Grand i10 Nios. It includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully-digital instrument console, a push start-stop button, automatic climate control, and rear AC vents. The SUV also offers some segment-first features like a sunroof, wireless charger, and an in-built dashcam. Safety-wise, the Exter sets new standards with six airbags as standard, along with ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and camera, vehicle stability control, and hill start assist.
Under the hood, the Hyundai Exter shares its 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine with the Grand i10 Nios. It comes with both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox options, delivering 83 PS of power and 113.8 Nm of torque. Furthermore, select variants offer a CNG option with this engine, generating 69 PS of power and 95.2 Nm of torque.
