I spy a sequel

0 11

The new year seems to have brought a new promise for Ali Fazal. It is heard that Ric Roman Waugh, who helmed Kandahar (2023) featuring Gerard Butler and Fazal, is contemplating a sequel to the espionage action thriller. If things work out, Fazal will apparently be the first Indian actor to have a recurring part in a successful Hollywood film franchise. The movie is expected to go into development soon.

Waugh has a knack for franchise films. The director, who helmed Angel Has Fallen (2019) and Greenland (2020), is developing their respective sequels, Night Has Fallen and Greenland: Migration. Similarly, he designed Kandahar in such a way that it paved the way for a second instalment. A source reveals, “Kandahar, which saw Ali as the antagonist, ended on a cliffhanger. Gerard’s character Tom is seen making a promise to his friend Mohammed that they will return to Afghanistan to find his wife’s sister Fathemah. Fazal will reprise his role of Kahil in the second part. If all goes well, he will leave for the shoot in the second half of 2024. The actor is currently wrapping up Anurag Basu’s Metro In Dino, and locking his dates for the promotional plan of Mirzapur 3.”

For his antagonist act in Kandahar, Fazal—who starred in Hollywood offerings, Victoria & Abdul (2017) and Death on the Nile (2022)—had learnt dirt biking and executed several stunts without the aid of a body double.
