IIT Gandhinagar Interview Experience for MTech

My Early MTech Interview Experience at IIT Gandhinagar ( AIR- 239 | GATE CSE 2023 )

after going through the application process, I was overjoyed to receive an invitation for an interview. Here’s how my experience at the interview went:

On the day of the interview, I joined the ZOOM meeting link 5 minutes earlier. The interview panel consisted of 3 faculty members from the institute and it was one student per interview type of system. 

Each faculty asked me questions one by one as per my interests.

The first Professor greeted me warmly and made me feel comfortable and started the interview by asking “Introduce Yourself“.

Then he began by asking basic questions about my academic background and interests like he asked me about my Favorite Subjects, I replied “CN, ALGO, DS “.The first professor asked me 2 questions : 

1.  you are given an array with n numbers , to find if sum=k can be made using numbers belonging to the given array or not.
2.  Which is better for Merge sort, array or linked list?

Now, the second professor continued the interview by asking “While preparing for the gate, u must have heard about Sorting ?“

I replied “Yes“, then he began asking questions related to that, these are:

1.  Time complexity of merge sort.
2.  Best algo to sort a large Array of size N.
3.   is merge sort Internal or external sorting?

Now in between this third professor asked me 2 questions :

1.  Is Merge sort a place or outplace sorting Technique?
2.  Can we make Merge sort a inplace sorting ?
3.  Recurrence relation of Inplace Merge sort.

During the interview, I tried my best to answer the questions to the best of my abilities.

Overall, I felt that the interview was a positive experience and questions were Simple types for the one who is preparing for gate , questions were directly from the Copy itself made during My gate preparation at IGATE BHILAI where Siddharth sir (director IGATE BHILAI) made these concepts very clear.

I remember that the outplace to in-place merge sort question was directly from my DS Notes. 

A few days later, I received the good news that I had been selected for the early MTech program at IIT Gandhinagar. 

In conclusion, the interview experience at IIT Gandhinagar was a memorable one for me. Just prepare your Favorite subject Nicely and especially the asks DS and Algo questions so be ready with that and don’t panic , GOOD LUCK.
