0 49

Mahindra is tipped to launch India’s most powerful sub-4 meter compact SUV – the XUV300 Sportz – on the 7th of October, 2022, right in the middle of the great Indian festive season. The Mahindra XUV300 Sportz has already been unmasked in the run up to launch, and here is a video of one of the first examples.

As the video clearly indicates, the Mahindra XUV300 Sportz will be available in an all-new golden paint scheme that looks quite fetching with the blacked out roof. The front grille and air dam get red accents – another hint at the new SUV’s sporty credentials. The biggest talking, or rather moving point, will be under the hood.

India’s most powerful sub-4 meter compact SUV!

The XUV300 Sportz will pack in a 1.2 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine retuned to produce 130 Bhp of peak power and 230 Nm of peak torque. These numbers make the XUV300 Sportz the most powerful sub-4 meter compact SUV ever sold in India. A 6 speed manual gearbox will drive the front wheels while it remains to be seen whether Mahindra will offer a 6 speed automated manual transmission (AMT) option as well.

The XUV300 Sportz will take on the lines of the newly launched Hyundai Venue N-Line, and the Kia Sonet GT Line sub-4 meter compact SUVs, which also have sporty credentials. The new SUV from Mahindra is likely to be a top-of-the-line variant in the XUV300 line-up, and is likely to be the priciest petrol powered XUV300 sold in India. We expect an ex-showroom price tag of about Rs. 12.99 lakh, which represents a 55,000 rupee premium over the W8(O) Dual Tone petrol 1.2 turbo manual trim.  The 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine of the XUV300, in non-Sportz trims, makes 109 Bhp-200 Nm, and gets 6 speed manual and AMT options.

Talking of equipment, the Mahindra XUV300 is loaded to the gills. Safety features on the compact SUV include 7 airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, three point seatbelts for all five passengers, ABS, EBD, ESP, hill hold, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and heated wing mirrors. The XUV300 has also scored a full five star rating in the Global NCAP crash safety test, and has edged out the Tata Nexon to become India’s safest sub-4 meter compact SUV. Sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a 7” touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 17 inch alloy wheels and adjustable steering weight are other key features offered on the XUV300’s top-end trims.

And it’ll be called the XUV400. The XUV400 is longer than the XUV300, and this translates into a more capacious boot. The XUV400 has already been unveiled in India and bookings are now open. The SUV’s prices will be announced  in January 2023, which is when the electric SUV will be officially launched. The XUV400 will take on the Tata Nexon EV, and is likely to cost about Rs. 20-21 lakh, on-road, for its top-end trim.
