India’s Weirdest Toyota Fortuner: A Closer Look On Video

0 20

The Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular 4×4 SUVs available for sale in the Indian market. Despite its steep pricing, people tend to buy it for its reliability and imposing looks. These cars also hold their value pretty well, resulting in great resale value. In January of this year, we came across a video on Instagram from a garage where a couple of Toyota Fortuner SUVs were being modified. In that video, it was said that the SUVs were being modified for the Indian Army. Here, we have another video that gives us a better view of the weird-looking modified Toyota Fortuner from India.

The video has been shared by Lokesh Swami on his YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger happened to spot a trailer that was parked on the roadside for some repair work. In order to repair the trailer, they took the cars out, and that is how the vlogger spotted these unique-looking modified Fortuners. The SUVs looked just like the regular versions sold in our country. The only noticeable difference here was the green paint job.

We see a large roof arch on the Fortuner. The vlogger, who was checking out the vehicle initially, says that it was the place to keep the guns, assuming that the vehicle would be used by the Indian Army. At the rear, there is a ladder to access the roof. However, the person from the truck who was carrying these vehicles stopped them from climbing up. Even they were not sure for whom these vehicles were made. The video mentions that the trailer was taking the car to Pune.

The video then shows how the interior of the car looks. It looked just like a regular Fortuner from the driver and co-driver sides. At the rear, however, things change. The second and third-row seats are completely removed, and a new cabin has been installed in place with some communication devices in it. There is a bench seat for the operator to sit and work. The boot is not shown in this video, but we know that it is not free anymore.

The car seen here is not prepared for the Indian Army, as said in the video. The roof arch seen here on the Fortuner is actually for the antenna. We do not think that the SUVs are being customized for the Indian Army. There were even claims in another video that this was a bulletproof vehicle. In this video, it looks like the car was the same as a regular Fortuner, and no armoring work was done to it. One reason why we feel this is not meant for the Indian Army is because we have not come across any official statement from Toyota related to the same. They are definitely supplying customized Toyota Hilux pickup trucks to the army but not anything Fortuner.

The way the vehicles were being transported is another clue. If this were the property of the Indian Army, the vlogger wouldn’t have been able to inspect this vehicle so closely. There are possibilities that these vehicles are being used as OB vans for some state intelligence unit or paramilitary forces.
