0 52

iOS 16.2 update is now out for all iPhones with iOS 16. 5G support released for Indian iPhones.

The iOS 16.2 update has been rolled out and before anything else, this is what you need to know – support for 5G networks comes to Indian iPhone users. Since 2020, all the new iPhones launches have supported 5G but Apple is enabling the software support now. Hence, if you use an iPhone from the iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 14 series and the iPhone SE 3rd Gen, and have a subscription to Reliance Jio or Airtel 5G, you can now enjoy 5G on these networks.

Note that 5G is not enabled by default on 5G compatible iPhones. Users will need to dig into the Settings menu and head into the Mobile Data to enable 5G. Apple is giving two options for users – 5G Auto and 5G On. The first one prioritises battery life over 5G download speeds whereas the second one prioritises 5G speeds.

Other than the support for 5G, the iOS 16.2 update also brings a couple of changes for the newer iPhone models.

– For users of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, the iOS 16.2 update allows customisation options for Always On display. You can now disable the wallpaper and notification, thereby going for a minimalist and clean look, more akin to Android phones.

– The Apple Music Sing also comes to iPhones and other Apple devices, offering a karaoke experience on most songs.

– Advanced Data Protection brings end-to-end encryption for iCloud files and data. This should help with enhanced security while doing iCloud backups.

– The Freeform app also makes it to the iPhone, which allows users to collaborate in various ways. This is kind of a whiteboard app where you can paste, edit and keep things.

– There are new widgets for Sleep and Medication.

– Apple also rolls out some bug fixes and improvements for iPhones.

– Other features include better search in Messages, news articles in Weather app for a location, improved collaboration for Notes, AirDrop allowing 10 minutes to be open to everyone and Crash Detection optimistion for iPhone 14 series devices.

Note that the iOS 16.2 update weighs almost over 1 GB and hence, it is advisable to rely on a Wi-Fi network to download the update faster.
