These startup or shutdown chimes are built into the iPhone 14’s A16 chip, as part of the “bootrom,” according to 9to5Mac. The report explains when the phone boots, “At that point, iOS isn’t actually running yet, so the only way for chimes to play right away is for them to be embedded in the chip’s firmware.” And hence, Apple is not expected to issue an update for older devices to bring this feature. However, this doesn’t explain how the non-Pro iPhone 14 models, which still use last year’s A15 processor, have this feature. Anyways, Apple is yet to release any statement about whether this new startup sound feature will be rolled out the older iPhones as well or not.

Now enable/disable the “Turn On & Off Sounds” toggle.
