iPhone 15 to be the first USB Type-C iPhone before a complete shift to port-less iPhones: Report

Before the EU law came into effect, Apple was reportedly working on bringing type-C ports on many of its devices. As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman points out, the company has been preparing for the EU law behind the scenes. Several Apple products like the MacBook laptops and iPads use USB type-C already. If the iPhone 15 gets a type-C port, only the AirPods, Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad will be the only devices left with a lightning port.

The next versions of the AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max are all rumoured to move to a type-C ports, and that is said to be done by 2024. Now, while it looks like the complete Apple lineup will move to usb type-C port, the company is still said to be going ahead with its vision for a wireless future and a port-less iPhone.

There have been reports of Apple removing the charging port on the iPhone altogether and transition entirely to wireless charging on the iPhone, iPad, and the Apple Watch. In his report also, Gurman pointed out that Apple’s future is wireless and that the USB type-C era will be short-lived, maybe shorter than the 30-pin iPod connector or the Lightning port that have been around for 11 years.

Apple has long been expected to transition to fully port-less iPhones, with the company’s vision for a wireless future. The new EU Laws in fact, came as a hiccup in the company’s plans to directly move from a lightning port to port-less, as hinted by previous reports. Reports about Apple planning to remove the charging port started coming in last year. This year’s iPhone 14 models coming without a SIM tray in the US is also said to be a step towards a move to a port-less iPhone.
