iPhone 16 Pro could offer higher storage than Galaxy flagships

0 29

Samsung ditched the microSD slot on flagship Galaxy smartphones back in 2021. Without the option for microSD expansion, Samsung’s flagship phones are on par with Apple’s iPhones when it comes to storage choices, something the Korean giant’s diehard fans still haven’t forgiven it for.

Back in 2021, Apple even offered more storage options than the latest Galaxy flagship at the time, the Galaxy S21, as Samsung didn’t launch a Galaxy S21, S21+, or S21 Ultra variant with 1TB of storage. This year, Apple could once again take the lead by offering the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max with a whopping 2TB of storage.

According to supply chain sources, both Pro iPhone 16 models will have up to 2TB of storage. However, how much storage will be available on the base variants hasn’t been mentioned. All iPhone 15 models except the Pro Max come with 128GB of storage on the base configuration, and it will be interesting to see if that will change with the iPhone 16 lineup.

Samsung currently equips all of its flagship models with a minimum of 256GB storage. The smallest Galaxy S models and the Galaxy Z Flip foldables are the only exceptions – the former also miss out on the fastest UFS storage on the 128GB variant.

As for 1TB of storage, your only options are a Galaxy S Ultra or a Galaxy Z Fold smartphone. Samsung probably won’t be in a rush to add a 2TB option even if Apple launches a 2TB iPhone 16 Pro or 16 Pro Max, as consumers buying Android phones tend to be less willing to pay the price such high storage variants command compared to those who purchase iPhones.

More storage may not be the only thing that’s better on the next iPhones than Galaxy flagships. Apple could also switch to a higher-resolution ultra-wide camera, which is something we are hoping Samsung will do as well as the ultra-wide camera feeling outdated is one of the few complaints we have about the Galaxy S24 lineup.

Nothing is confirmed at this time, however, and given Apple’s insistence on avoiding major upgrades for as long as possible, it’s highly likely that not all of the rumors about the iPhone 16 lineup will end up being true.
