iPhone 16 Pro to get periscope lens and new ultrawide sensor, iPhone 17 selfies will be better: Kuo
iPhone 16 Pro camera upgrades
- According to Ming-Chi Kuo’s report, the iPhone 16 Pro will get the tetraprism zoom camera from the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
- The screen size of the standard Pro version is tipped to be bumped to 6.27-inch and this will be quite an upgrade. To recall, the vanilla Pro model has a 6.1-inch screen size historically.
- Kuo says the standard 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera will be bumped to a 48MP 1/2.55-inch (0.7µm) unit.
- However, the lens will still produce pixel-binned 12MP 1.4µm images. The ultrawide will keep the 6P lens design.
iPhone 17 upgrades
- Kuo says that the selfie camera module on all iPhone 17 models will get a new 24MP unit with a 6P Lens.
- This will be a major upgrade over the 12MP 5P unit on current iPhones.
- Kuo says that Genius (Yujingguang) will be the sole supplier of the new ultrawide and selfie modules.
- This will lead to a major revenue increase for the company in the second half of 2024 and 2025.
Besides these, there could be multiple other upgrades as well. All iPhone 16 models this year are rumoured to get the in-house A18 chipset. Ming-Chi Kuo recently claimed that all iPhone 16 models would get AI-enhanced Siri, upgraded mics, and iOS 18 with ChatGPT-like features. All the models in the series are expected to feature the new Action Button, which was introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro series.
