India’s most affordable 7-seater vehicle is the Eeco but not many people buy it because it is mostly used by corporates. According to a recent media report, Maruti Suzuki will be stopping the production of the Eeco in July and will launch the new generation around the festive season this year. Here, we have the images that have been leaked online.

Some reports are claiming that this is the new-gen Eeco. But we do not think so because the design looks exactly the same as the current Eeco. It has got the same headlamps, tail lamps, grille and even the bumpers are the same. There are no changes on the sides also so it still is running on steel wheels.

As of now, the Eeco is offered with a G12 petrol engine which has a capacity of 1.2-litres. It produces 73 PS of max power and 98 Nm of peak torque. While running on CNG, the power output falls to 63 PS and the torque output decreases to 85 Nm. The Eeco is offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, there is no automatic on offer. The claimed fuel efficiency while running on petrol is 16.11 kmpl and while running on CNG is 20.88 km per kg.

Last year, Maruti Suzuki increased the price of the Eeco by Rs. 8,000 because now they have to offer passenger airbag as standard. Eeco already comes with a high-speed alert, rear parking sensors, Electronic Brake Distribution, an Anti-lock braking system and speed belt reminders.

But then there is the safety rating provided by Global NCAP. Eeco received zero stars in the crash test done by Global NCAP. The crash test report revealed that chest protection was not adequate and knees were prone to impact because of the design. In the Child restrains category, Eeco scored 2 stars.

Maruti Suzuki offers Eco as a five-seater or a seven-seater. As of now, it is offered in four variants. There is a 5-seater standard (O), 5-seater AC (O), 5-seater AC CNG (O), and 7-seater standard (O). You cannot get the 7-seater version with the CNG powertrain. However, this might change once the new-gen arrives. Eeco also does not have any direct rivals. There used to be the Datsun Go+ but Nissan has discontinued the Datsun brand in India. Then there is only the Triber which could be called a competitor because it is also a 7 seater MPV but comes with a lot more equipment than the Eeco.

Eeco is still a pretty bare bone vehicle. It does not get LED Daytime Running Lamps or LED headlamps. There are normal halogen headlamps, manual air conditioning, a pretty basic multi-information display, fixed pillow type headrests for the rear occupants and seatback pockets, integrated headrests for the front occupants and recline function for the front seats. Maruti Suzuki is expected to add more features to the new generation of the Eeco.
