James Gunn Reportedly Wants to Work With ‘Rrr’ Star Jr Ntr

James Gunn revealed an actor he’d like to work with in a future project, with RRR star N.T. Rama Rao Jr. (aka Jr NTR) managing to catch the attention of the Marvel and DC director thanks to his performance in the epic Indian action drama.

In an interview with News18, Gunn revealed he’s open to working with the Telgu actor in a future project. The director didn’t say if this project is connected to DC or Marvel, but plans to figure that out. Hopefully, it would be a huge role, and perhaps more information would be released in the future.

“Who is the guy from RRR that’s so good… What’s his name? RRR, the big one from last year? With all the tigers coming out of the cage and everything? That guy! I would love to work with that guy someday. So amazing, so cool. I don’t know, I would have to figure that one out. That would take a little while.”

Gunn has revealed in the past that he would like to work with new faces, along with other actors that he’s worked with in the past in future DC films. So is this the filmmaker’s way of hinting that Jr NTR could star in a DC title? At the moment, it’s unlikely, but fingers crossed it turns out to be the case. It would be interesting to see more people of color star in huge blockbuster films, especially when Gunn revealed in the same interview that Bollywood played an influence in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

“What I love about Indian cinema and Bollywood movies is they are all about art, and they are also all about entertainment. There are no rules about what a movie has to be, it could be a lot of different things and that’s true about the Guardians movies.” 

Jr NTR has starred in multiple Bollywood films, and it would be great to see him appear outside of Bollywood following his RRR success. According to the actor’s IMDB page, he’s still listed to star in three future projects, with one that will be released in 2024.

RRR managed to reach massive success since its release both in India and internationally. While the film was snubbed for Best Picture at the 95th Academy Awards, the song “Naatu Naatu” did win the Oscar for “Best Original Song.”
