More news has come out about the upcoming Minecraft movie after it was revealed that another actor is currently in negotiations.

Matt Berry, known for his roles in What We Do in the Shadows, The IT Crowd, and The Book of Boba Fett, could star in the upcoming film adaptation of the popular video game. Deadline reported that Berry’s potential role is still under wraps, and clues about potential characters were not revealed.

The Minecraft movie has been in development since 2014 and the film distribution rights for the film were given to Warner Bros. Pictures a year later. Per its IMDb page, (which, in some cases, has the film tentatively titled as Cave Game), Minecraft will be directed by Jared Hess, known for his works in Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. So far, only Jason Mamoa has been cast in the film, but his role also remains unknown.

There is no information on how deep in negotiations Berry is with Warner Bros. But it would be interesting to see him star in the live-action film adaptation, considering that he’s won a 2015 BAFTA TV Award for his role in Toast in London and was nominated for his performance in What We Do In The Shadows during the 2021’s Critics’ Choice Television Awards, 2022’s Hollywood Critics Association Awards, and 2023’s BAFTA TV Awards.

The Minecraft movie was reportedly scheduled to come out in 2020 and was supposed to be released on Netflix. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, development was delayed and is now scheduled to come out in theaters on April 2025.
