Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt on Claim Joy Behar Offered Ted Lasso Role
Behar said earlier this week that she was offered to play Ted Lasso’s mother in the series
Ted Lasso creators Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt were baffled by Joy Behar‘s claim that she was offered a role in season three of the Apple TV series.
Speaking with People Magazine during a panel at a pre-Emmys event on Thursday night, the co-creators expressed their surprise when asked about Behar’s assertion. “I, no. Joy Behar from The View?” Sudeikis asked. As Hunt added: “Respectfully, it would be news to us. We just work there.”
Behar previously claimed in The View’s “Behind the Table” podcast this week that she was offered a role to play Sudeikis’ titular character’s mother in season three.
“It was too hot, there was a heatwave going on at that time. I’m a writer, I write my own stuff, I don’t care about other people’s stuff, I don’t need to be in everything,” Behar said at the podcast’s 14:40 mark. “If they were doing it in the spring or the fall I would’ve done it, but not in the middle of the heatwave.”
Even with lukewarm reviews for the show’s third season, Ted Lasso leads for comedy nominees for this year’s Primetime Emmys with 21 nods, including for Outstanding Comedy Series. The show has dominated the category since the show first aired in 2020. Sudeikis is up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, while Phil Dunster and Brett Goldstein are both up for Supporting Actor.
Juno Temple and Hannah Waddingham are both nominated for Oustanding Supporting Acrtress. Becky Ann Baker, who got the role as Lasso’s mother, got a nod for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
