Jonathan Majors’ Domestic Violence Sentencing Postponed

0 15

The Marvel actor will not be sentenced on Tuesday after his legal team filed various motions following his conviction on reckless assault charges

Jonathan Majors’ sentencing was delayed on Tuesday after the embattled actor’s legal team filed last-minute motions in the case, months after the former Marvel actor’s conviction for recklessly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

The morning’s hearing was pushed back until after lunchtime when Judge Michael Gaffey will likely schedule a new sentencing date. Although the charges could earn Majors up to a year behind bars, it is unlikely he’ll serve any prison time.

Attorneys for Majors filed various motions that Judge Gaffey will have to address before sentencing can continue. At least one issue pertains to the case’s Molineux evidence — a previous history of alleged bad acts related to the case — which Majors is fighting to keep permanently under seal, according to Business Insider

Several media outlets filed a letter to the court in December arguing for the unsealing of the Molineux evidence, which Rolling Stone learned included other women’s testimonies about their alleged abusive relationships with Majors. The actor’s attorney, Priya Chaudhry, argued in court papers that unsealing the “unproven allegations” would cause “significant concrete harm” because “the media has already demonstrated that it has a near-insatiable appetite for salacious gossip concerning Mr. Majors.”

The former Marvel star was found guilty in December of the misdemeanor charge of reckless assault in the third degree and a harassment violation following his high-profile domestic violence case with his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. The 34-year-old told ABC News anchor Lindsey Davis last month he was stunned by the verdict. (Majors was found not guilty of the two more serious charges, intentional assault and aggravated harassment.)

Majors was arrested in March 2023 for allegedly attacking Jabbari after a fight broke out over his phone when Jabbari saw him receive a romantic text from another woman. While Jabbari sustained a fractured finger and a gash behind her ear, Majors maintained his innocence and claimed Jabbari was the aggressor that night.

Majors has only spoken publicly about the case once in a primetime ABC News interview. In the past year, he’s gone from early Oscar buzz for Magazine Dreams to being dropped from nearly all his slated projects, including a Dennis Rodman biopic and his tentpole Marvel movie.
