Kannada movie star Darshan buys a new Land Rover Defender SUV

Sandalwood actor Darshan has bought a new Land Rover Defender SUV. It seems like the SUV is finished in the Pangea Green paint scheme. The price of the 110 version starts at Rs. 82.25 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 2.13 Crores ex-showroom. We are not sure which variant Darshan opted for.

Darshan is a well-known automotive enthusiast. He owns a lot of high-end cars. He has a Lamborghini Urus which is currently the best-selling Lamborghini. He also owns a Lamborghini Huracan. Moreover, he also has a Jaguar XKR-S finished in blue colour.

Land Rover Defender has become a choice of many famous celebrities. Mukesh Ambani, Sunny Deol, Arjun Kapoor, Vijay Vasanth, Prakash Raj, Sartaaj Singh and Dulquer Salmaan also owns a Land Rover Defender.

The Defender is offered in a bunch of different engine options. There is 2.0-litre turbo petrol, 3.0-litre turbo petrol, 3.0-litre turbo diesel and a 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine that has been supercharged. All the engines are mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

The 2.0-litre petrol produces 292 bhp and 400 Nm whereas the 3.0-litre petrol puts out 296 bhp and 550 Nm. The 3.0-litre diesel produces 296 bhp and 550 Nm. However, without a doubt, the most enthusiastic engine is the old-school 5.0-litre supercharged V8. It produces 525 bhp and 650 Nm.

Land Rover is known for its off-road capability and Defender is iconic in such a community. So, the manufacturer is offering all-wheel-drive with Defender as standard. It also comes with a clever Terrain Response System that can automatically detect the type of surface and adjust various parameters of the SUV. So, the power is transferred to all four wheels using Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system.

Unlike the previous Defender, the new Defender comes with loads of equipment. There is Electronic Active Differential with Torque Vectoring, Adaptive Dynamics, Twin Speed Transfer Box, All-Terrain Progress Control and Roll Stability Control. Land Rover is now offering air suspension as standard across all the variants. What this helps with is giving a better ride quality and the driver can increase or decrease the ride height of the SUV. In fact, the Defender’s ride height can be increased by 145 mm while off-roading.

Land Rover is offering Defender in a total of three body styles. There are 90, 110 and 130. In India, we only get 90 and 110. It is expected that the 130 will be brought to India by the end of this year. The 90 is offered as a two-door SUV so it is the most capable of the three. You might think that the 130 would be the least capable because it has the largest wheelbase but that is not true. The off-road capability of the 130 and 110 is the same. Both have the same approach/departure/breakover angles and water wading capability. Land Rover has done this by making changes to the floor and adjusting the air suspension of the 130.
