Karnataka: Karnataka govt clears Wistron smartphone project, 13 other investments

Karnataka high-level clearance committee chaired by chief minister Siddaramaiah on Friday approved an investment of Rs 2,095 crore from Wistron Infocomm, along with six new proposals and eight additional investment proposals.

Wistron Infocomm has sought 15 acres of land at Narasapura industrial area in Kolar to assemble smartphones, IoT products and biotech devices.

Together, the projects have proposed Rs 17,835 crore in investment, promising to add 27,067 jobs. Industries minister MB Patil and IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge were also present at the meeting.

STT Global Data Centres’s Rs 1,352 crore investment is among the cleared projects, expected to add 250 jobs. Air India’s Rs 1,750-crore MRO facility will create 1,200 jobs and ICT Service Management Solution’s Rs 1,450 crore project will add 2,500 jobs. Ultratech Cement (Rs 490 crore) and RBSSN Ferrous (Rs 1,620 crore) are also among additional investments cleared.

Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Ballary, and Belgaum districts of North Karnataka will attract new and additional investment of Rs 10,433.72 crore, the Industries department said in a statement.

Patil had last month said Air India will establish an airframe maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Bengaluru International Airport with an investment plan of Rs 1,300 crore which is likely to employ 1,200 people.
