Maybe Chang has decided to part ways with the study group once and for all. Ken Jeong, the man behind the lovably eccentric former Spanish teacher dropped a bombshell about his Community co-star, Joel McHale, using quite the shocking ‘changuage.’

The unexpected friendly fire happened during an interview with Looper, when Jeong touched on the prophetic Community film that is currently in progress, and well, it seems like Joel McHale is in it. Shocking, we know, but it’s true – Jeff Winger will be back, and no one is more against it than Señor Chang himself. Jeong delivered the shocking news of McHale’s participation in the film, and perhaps Britta’s not the problem, after all.

“Everyone except Joel McHale, I’m very excited to reunite with. Truly, in television, my career will be defined by the ‘Community’ movie. Unfortunately, Joel McHale’s a part of it and he’s … We do a lot of things together; we did the ‘New Year’s Eve Toast and Roast.’ I gave him mercy bookings on “The Masked Singer” when he needed the work.”

But fear not, for this diss was delivered with a touch of affection. Jeong and McHale’s friendship goes way back to their early days on the sitcom’s set, where their bond became unbreakable. They have since teamed up on various projects, solidifying their comedic chemistry and it may seem peculiar to outsiders, but that’s just how they roll – with Jeong swooping in to clear things up in his own way.

“I know people say we may or may not be best friends in real life.” Jeong continued, “He may or may not be my closest friend in real life, but it’s unfortunate that Joel McHale is a part of the movie. I don’t think he was the star of it, but it’s great that I get to see the other people I want to see.”

Announced in September, the new Community film spearheaded by Peacock will be making a triumphant return of the most chaotic community college students back to the screen, and so far, quite a few returnees have been announced. From the original lineup, Jeff (McHale), Annie (Alison Brie), Abed (Danny Pudi), Britta (Gillian Jacobs), and Troy (Donald Glover) are all expected to return. Jim Rash as the Dean, and of course, Jeong as Chang will also be back to antagonize the study group.

Without a release date just yet, the new Community film might be postponed in light of the ongoing writer’s strike hitting the United States. In the meantime, the cast is sure to keep everyone entertained until it drops.

Community is available to stream on Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video.
