Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta Rule Compact SUV Segment: Here is proof

When it comes to the compact or the mid-size SUV segment of the country, it is ruled by the South Korean models, namely the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Both of these siblings are based on the same platform and share the same powertrain options, available in numerous variants. Recently, Hyundai Motor India Limited has announced that the newly launched 2024 Creta facelift has already amassed around 51,000 reservations for the model. The company announced the commencement of bookings for the Creta back in the first week of January this year, and its price was revealed on the 16th of January.

Apart from the Hyundai Creta, its sibling from the sister brand Kia, the all-new facelifted Seltos, has also gained a lot of popularity in the country. It has been announced by the South Korean automaker that the new Seltos facelift, since its launch in July of last year, has crossed the 1 lakh mark for its bookings.

Kia India has also announced that the new Seltos receives around 13,500 fresh bookings every month. Additionally, the company has stated that from the day of its first launch in August 2019, Kia has manufactured over 6 lakh units of Seltos in India. It has also revealed that 75% of these total manufactured cars have been sold in the domestic market, and in 2023 alone, the company sold a total of 1.04 lakh units of the mid-size SUV.

Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are the segment champions

Both of these South Korean siblings have been topping the sales chart of the mid-size SUV segment since their respective launches. The Hyundai Creta has so far never been dethroned by any of the competing SUVs in the segment. The Kia Seltos, on the other hand, has a few times ceded its spot to the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, generally, it stays in the top three spots of the mid-size segment.

Why are these SUVs so popular?

Well, the answer to this question is that both of these SUVs are offered in multiple different variants in the country. Both of these SUVs are based on the same K-Platform and offer the exact same powertrain options. In total, there are three engine options which include a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel engine, and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
