Killer Mike Reacts to Grammys Arrest, Calls Out Over-Zealous Security – The Hollywood Reporter

Rapper Killer Mike has offered fresh details about his arrest at the 2024 Grammys and an investigation that led to a misdemeanor charge.

The rapper was detained at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena after winning three Grammys during the premiere ceremony, where the majority of the awards are handed out, which took place at the nearby Peacock Theater.

“As you can imagine, there was a lot going and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter. We experienced an over-zealous security guard, but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing,” Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Render, said in a statement late Monday night about efforts to navigate his way to the Crypto.com Arena after collecting his awards.

He won for best rap song, performance and album before being detained, handcuffed and charged with misdemeanor battery following an apparent scuffle with the security guard that occurred outside the Crypto.com Arena after the rapper collected his awards at the Peacock Theater.

After being placed under arrest, the Atlanta-based rapper was questioned at the arena and then transported to LAPD Central Division, where he was booked for a misdemeanor. Killer Mike thanked his fans for their goodwill messages. “I greatly appreciate the concern and support, but I am better than OK,” he added.

A source close to Killer Mike added on background that the altercation and arrest had been unduly hyped. “The situation has been overblown, but we are confident that the facts of the case, when laid bare, will show that Mike did not commit the alleged offense and he will be exonerated,” the source added.

The Los Angeles Police Department did not respond to The Hollywood Reporter‘s request for comment early Tuesday morning.
