In response to growing commuter needs, Kochi Water Metro has ramped up its services between Vyttila and Kakkanad starting this Monday.

Now, there will be 14 additional trips to accommodate passengers better. During peak hours, boats will run every 25 minutes, and during off-peak times, every 30 minutes. This is a significant improvement from the previous interval of 35 to 45 minutes.

According to the updated schedule on the KMWL website, the first boat will depart from Vyttila to Kakkanad at 7:30 am, with the last one leaving at 7:25 pm. Likewise, there will be 27 trips from Vyttila to Kakkanad and 26 trips in the opposite direction. From Kakkanad to Vyttila, the first boat sails at 8:00 am, and the final departure is at 7:55 pm, as reported by TOI.

Initially launched on April 27 last year, commercial operations on this route began with limited hours—8:00 am to 11:00 am and 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm—with only three trips each morning and evening. Later, the frequency increased to every 45 minutes to meet demand.

As Kochi Metro gears up to initiate civil works for its Phase-II line from JLN Stadium to Kakkanad, heavier traffic congestion is anticipated along this route.
