Ram V and Filipe Andrade, the critically acclaimed, award nominated team behind The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, are reuniting for a new series, Rare Flavours, set to debut from BOOM! in September 2023.

According to the PR:

“Meet Rubin Baksh, a Rakshasa [demon from Hindu mythology] with a down-to-earth dream of becoming the next Anthony Bourdain. To make his dream come true, Rubin enlists Mo, a down-on-his-luck filmmaker, to document the world-renowned cuisine of India and the people behind the glorious, flavourful food.

“But little does Mo know that there’s more to Rubin than meets the eye, and the mortals play a darker role in the show than they were prepared for…”

Rare Flavours #1 will be served from your favourite Michelin star rated local comic shop (and digital marketplace) September 20, 2023. This first issue will have three variant covers by Fabío Moon, Anand RK and David Mack – in addition to the main cover by series artist Filipe Andrade.

BOOM! Executive Editor Eric Harburn says:

“Ram and Filipe are a powerhouse of a creative team. Following their modern classic The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, return to India for a tale of the fleeting joys of life in the duo’s next masterpiece, Rare Flavours.”

V and Andrade’s The Many Deaths of Laila Starr has been a worldwide hit with it being nominated for awards in the US and France. Laila Starr was nominated for an Eisner, a Harvey, and a Ringo Award. Earlier this month The Many Deaths of Laila Starr won the 2023 Excellence in Graphic Literature Award (Adult – Fiction) from Pop Culture Classroom. Meanwhile in France, the Association of French Comics Critics (ACBD) nominated it for the Prix Comics de la Critique ACBD 2022 – it lost to Barry Windsor-Smith‘s Monsters.
