Larry David Wants to Fight Elmo Again

0 35

It was the live TV attack that shocked the world. Furry red monster Elmo was making an appearance on the Today Show on Thursday, speaking about the importance of mental health, when all of a sudden, Larry David launched toward the muppet and attacked him, grabbing his face and throwing a punch at the Sesame Street legend.

“Somebody had to do it!” David said with a giggle.

David later returned for a different Today segment and apologized to Elmo, who quickly accepted the sentiment. But looks like it was not that sincere, and Sesame Street might need to up their security measures because David is not so sorry after all.

On Thursday night, the comedian visited Late Night with Seth Meyers and recounted the attack, revealing that if he could, he’d attack Elmo again.

“I don’t think I want to talk about it,” he said at first, looking remorseful. “Yeah, yeah. I did it.”

David described the incident, mocking the Sesame Street character for talking about mental health.

“Elmo was talking. I was waiting to be interviewed, and he was going on about mental health, and I had to listen to every word,” David said, mimicking the character’s voice. “And I was going, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, I don’t think I can take another second of this!’ And so I got off my chair, and I approached him, and I throttled him!”

“I couldn’t take it!” David added. “And you know what? I would do it again!”

Elmo’s appearance on the show came as Elmo went viral on X where he asked “Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing?” and folks (including Barack Obama and T-Pain) responded with what they were actually going through. The Sesame Street X account even had to share resources for users who needed tools to focus on their emotional well-being.

Elmo was simply checking in with all of us, yet David reacted with violence. There might be a little jealousy going on there: Elmo’s been on the air with Sesame Street since 1985. Meanwhile, David was doing promo for the 12th and final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
