Launch likely in 3 months’ time

It seems like Hyundai is nearing the launch of its its first all-electric product the Ioniq 5’s launch in the country. Recently a black camouflaged Ioniq 5 was spotted testing on Chennai roads. From the pictures, it can be easily recognized that it is Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 as the silhouette and design of the alloy wheels are very distinct. We can assume the launch is near as earlier this year, the South Korean brand had confirmed that the all-new IONIQ 5 will arrive in the second half of this year. While Hyundai did not provide an exact date, it was assumed to come to the market around the festive season which is very near.

Hyundai’s sister brand, Kia Motors, recently launched its first electric vehicle the Kia EV6 in India.

The E-GMP platform, which stands for Electric-Global Modular Platform will serve as the underpinning for the Hyundai Ioniq 5. E-GMP is a skateboard platform, in contrast to some other electric cars that are built on ICE platforms. Thus, the corners are supported by all four wheels. This makes a lot of space available for batteries and people. The back floor is levelled and there are no transmission tunnels, and the overhangs are all rather small. Therefore, there will be plenty of room for all the people inside.

The Ioniq 5 boasts sizable touchscreen infotainment systems, much like every other Hyundai vehicle. There are two 12 inch totally digital displays in this instance. In addition, Hyundai will provide features including BlueLink connected car features, a panoramic sunroof, a sliding centre console, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, and dual-zone temperature control. Consequently, a motor is mounted on both the front and back axles. It has a maximum output of 306 horsepower and a maximum torque of 605 Nm. The other option is the rear-wheel-drive model, which has a solitary motor on the back axle. It generates 350 Nm of maximum torque and 169 horsepower of maximum power. India is quite likely to just receive the rear-wheel-drive model because it will be less expensive. Hyundai may potentially offer an all-wheel-drive model, although it would be more expensive.

With the Ioniq 5, internationally Hyundai offers the option to choose between two battery packs. The options are a 58 kWh and a 72.6 kWh battery. The 72.6 kWh battery provides a 481 km-long driving range, although the Ioniq 5 was able to travel up to 488 kilometres in a test. The 385 km driving range of the smaller 58 kWh battery is impressive as well and it will most likely be the option that we will be getting in India. The WLTP rating applies to these driving ranges. Furthermore, with the use of a 350 kW fast charger, the battery may be recharged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

As for the pricing, it is believed that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be delivered to India by Hyundai as a CBU, or completely built unit. The price would be quite expensive as a result. In India, the Ioniq 5 is anticipated to cost between Rs. 45 lakhs and Rs. 60 lakhs ex-showroom. And once launched it will be taking on its completion with its sister brand Kia’s very own electric based on the same platform the EV6. It will also be competing with the Swedish manufacturer Volvo’s XC40 Recharge.
