Launch slated for early June
Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the all-new Jimny in the first week of June 2023, ending a long wait for fans. The five-door Jimny was initially expected to arrive in May 2023, but the launch has now been pushed back. Bookings for the vehicle opened as soon as it debuted at the Auto Expo 2023 in January. Currently, Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that it has received 24,500 bookings for the new Jimny, leading to an estimated waiting period of six to eight months depending on the variant.
According to dealer outlets, the most popular color choices for the new Jimny are Kinetic Yellow, Pearl Arctic White, and Bluish Black. While Maruti Suzuki has been manufacturing the three-door version of the Jimny for export markets, the five-door Jimny will be manufactured at the company’s production facility in Gurugram. The automaker aims to produce 7,000 units of the Jimny per month to meet demand from local and overseas markets.
Insiders from Maruti Suzuki reveal that the top-spec Alpha variant is in higher demand compared to the base-spec Zeta variant. The Alpha variant boasts a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, push start-stop button, auto LED projector headlamps, cruise control, and a 6-speaker Arkamys sound system. It also comes with safety features like six airbags, ABS with EBDs, hill hold assist, hill descent control, ESP, and segment-first headlamp washers.

The new five-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny will feature a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated K15B petrol engine, producing a maximum power output of 105 PS and a maximum torque output of 138 Nm. The engine comes with two transmission choices: a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. The India-spec Jimny will come with Suzuki’s famed AllGrip four-wheel drive system, which includes a manual transfer case and low-range gearbox.
While prices have yet to be announced, the new Maruti Suzuki Jimny is expected to be priced between Rs 10-14 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and will be a more compact and affordable alternative to off-roaders like Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
The new Jimny will feature Suzuki’s AllGrip four-wheel-drive system as a standard feature and will be offered in two variants: Zeta and Alpha. Once launched, it will compete with the Mahindra Thar in the Indian market. This model will be exclusively available in a five-door variant, making India the first market to receive it. Basic safety features like dual airbags will be standard across all variants.
