Luxgen takes orders for new Hon Hai-based SUV

Taiwan’s Luxgen Motor Company, a subsidiary of local carmaker Yulon Motor, last week launched sales of a new electric vehicle (EV) based on Hon Hai Precision Company’s MIH open platform.

Hon Hai, widely known as Apple’s leading contract manufacturer Foxconn, established a joint venture with Yulon Motor at the end of 2020 called Foxtronn Vehicle Technologies Company dedicated to developing EVs based on the MIH platform.

Luxgen said it had received 5,000 orders for the new battery powered SUV, badged n7 and based on the C-model, the first developed by Foxtron. The new model is priced at NTD1m (US$32,500), with an additional NTD1,000 charged to customers wishing to join a prioity list and jump the queue. Deliveries of the n7 are scheduled to begin in the second half of next year.

Hon Hai wants to become a significant player in the global EV market and related supply chain with its MIH platform. It has a number of projects and clients around the world, including a plant in the US formerly owned by Lordstown Motors Corporation and a commercial vehicle joint venture in Thailand.
