Mahindra Born Electric SUVs to be unveiled on August 15th

Mahindra and Mahindra teased three new electric SUVs. The new electric vehicles will be based on the manufacturer’s new “Born Electric” platform. Mahindra will be unveiling the new Born Electric SUVs on 15th August. It is important to note that the SUVs will still be in the concept form. The unveiling will be done at Mahindra’s new design studio located in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom.

Mahindra calls the new studio ‘Mahindra Advanced Design Europe’, or MADE. The new vehicles are being designed here and the design is being led by Pratap Bose who earlier worked at Tata Motors. He helped design Tata’s Impact Design Philosophy which has been very successful in the Indian market.

All three SUVs have distinctive C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps which are quite large. On the largest SUV, the LED Daytime Running Lamps are connected by a light bar. At the rear, the LED tail lamps also mimic the same C-shape and the largest SUV also gets a light bar at the rear that connects both the tail lamps.

These new vehicles are expected to be based on the new “Born Electric” platform which means that the platform will not be shared with any internal combustion powered vehicle that is currently on sale. It is highly likely that the new vehicles use an electric skateboard platform. It is basically a flat floor between the four wheels which is exactly like a skateboard.

This opens up a lot of space for the occupants because the wheels are placed at the corners and there is no transmission tunnel. So, there would be an ample amount of knee room. Moreover, there could also be a front trunk along with the rear boot which increases the practicality of the vehicle significantly.

As seen from the teasers, there would be three SUVs. The smallest one will be a compact SUV, then there would be a mid-size SUV and the largest one could be the new SUV coupe. The compact SUV is expected to be the upcoming XUV400 whereas the SUV coupe is expected to be the XUV900 Coupe. The mid-size SUV could sit between the XUV400 and the XUV900 Coupe. This means it would be positioned around the XUV700. More details about the vehicles will be revealed later when they are showcased officially.

Mahindra XUV300 EV to be larger than XUV300

Mahindra showcased the XUV300 EV at the Auto Expo 2020. However, there have been new reports that say that the electric version of the XUV300 will be larger than the ICE counterpart. It will measure 4.2 metres in length so it will no longer be a compact SUV. Moreover, the new electric SUV is expected to get launched in the first quarter of 2023.

Originally the XUV300 EV was supposed to go directly against the Tata Nexon EV. However, now it was larger than its competitor. Mahindra wants to make sure that the XUV300 EV is easily distinguishable when compared to the ICE-powered XUV300. So, expect the manufacturer to make some significant changes and call it by a different name.
