0 36

India is a country where people are highly enthusiastic about automobiles and with the growth of the video-sharing platform – YouTube, people have found a way to show this enthusiasm. Every now and then we get videos of people drag racing different vehicles from different manufacturers but generally within the same class.  Recently a YouTube drag race was held between two SUVs that do not compete with each other in any realm. Despite having a clear bias in the results there was a moment that was completely unexpected.

Recently a video was shared on YouTube by the country’s one of the most famous channels HER GARAGE. In this video, Maruti’s newly launched Grand Vitara was lined up against the country’s most famous SUV the Scorpio-N. At the beginning of the video, the presenter explains that they are aware of the fact that the drag race between these two vehicles does not make any sense because of the power difference that they have. However, they still have come head to head because of the fun factor and curiosity.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara used in the video was one of the base variants that comes with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine, which puts up 103 PS of power and 138 Nm of torque, and is offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Meanwhile on the other hand the Mahindra Scorpio-N had 172 PS of power with 400 Nm of torque.

Moving past the introduction the presenter hops inside the Grand Vitara and for the first round the presenter and the driver of the Vitara turn off the traction control and air conditioner of the vehicle. They then ask the driver in the Scorpio-N to turn off the traction control as well, however they ask him to turn on the air conditioner to level down a little bit of advantage he has on the lower powered Grand Vitara. Following this they honk the horns for three times before getting off the line and as expected the Mahindra Scorpio-N takes the win in the first round.

In the second round the drivers were changed however no changes in the settings were made and the Scorpio-N takes the win once again. For the third round the driver of the Scorpio-N puts the vehicle in the lower power Zip mode in which the SUV only puts out 138 PS of power. This time around something expected occurs and the Grand Vitara takes the lead. And then for the fourth round they once again put the Scorpio-N in the Zap mode. This time the Scorpio-N wins the race but only with a small margin and the Grand for the starting phase remains almost neck and neck to the bigger SUV.

Finally in the last round the modes were same but the Scorpio-N could not take a good launch and hence losses the race. In the end the presenter than declares that the Scorpio-N is the winner of this drag race shootout, however the Grand Vitara performed beyond expectations.
