Mahindra Thar 4X4 gets Everest White paint shade

0 36

For those who always wanted the second-generation Mahindra Thar in a shade of white, the Indian UV maker finally launched it in the rear-wheel drive version a few weeks ago. However, it looks like Mahindra wants to give the white colour option for the Thar 4WD owners as well. In an Instagram post, Mahindra confirmed that the Thar 4WD will also be available in the Everest White colour option.

In the Instagram post, Mahindra confirmed that the Everest White colour scheme will now be available for the four-wheel drive version too, and not restricted only to the rear-wheel drive version. However, it looks like Mahindra had mistakenly uploaded this Instagram post, which has now been taken off the social media platform.

A few weeks ago, Mahindra launched the RWD variants of the Thar in three hard-top variants – AX diesel manual, LX diesel-manual and LX petrol-automatic. At the time of its launch, the Thar RWD received Rage Red, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black, Blazing Bronze and Aquamarine Blue.

Out of these two colours, the Everest White and Blazing Bronze were the two new shades, which were not offered in the Thar 4WD. While the availability of Everest White has been confirmed for the Thar 4WD, the same for the Blazing Bronze colour option is yet not confirmed for the Thar 4WD.

Compared to all the other colour options, the Everest White is the only light shade available for the Mahindra Thar, which offers a nice contrast to the black-coloured roof, bumpers, rearview mirrors, fenders and cladding. However, it looks like Mahindra wants to restrict the white colour option only to the LX variant of the four-wheel drive version, and not the base-spec AX variant.

The Mahindra Thar RWD was launched with two engine options – a 2.0-litre 150 PS turbocharged petrol engine with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and a 1.5-litre 118 PS diesel engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. In contrast, the Thar 4WD is being offered with a bigger 2.2-litre 130 PS diesel engine with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions, in addition to the 2.0-litre 150 PS turbocharged petrol engine with both 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.

With the rear-wheel drive versions, the Mahindra Thar has now a lower entry-level price point, which starts at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). With the rear-wheel driver versions, the Mahindra Thar has become a niche alternative to all the sub-four metre compact SUVs priced in the same range. However, in a few weeks, the Thar will receive its first direct rival in the form of the all-new Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
