As mentioned in the beginning, one of the biggest upgrades on the new Thar five-door’s hardtop will be the addition of a sunroof. Unlike the XUV700, it will be an electric single-pane sunroof. The operational buttons for the sunroof have been positioned in the front reading lamp area like other conventional models. Lastly, the Mahindra Thar five-door will get four power window switches on each of its four doors. Currently, the three-door Thar offers only two functional windows, and their controls are positioned in the middle of the console. Apart from these, most of the things are the same as the outgoing Thar three-door.

Coming to the exterior updates of the forthcoming Thar five-door, recent spy shots have revealed a few new key details. The new Thar will come equipped with a different design for the front grille. It will come equipped with a new 6-slat design instead of the traditional 7-slat grille on the three-door Thar. Another unique detail about this new grille is that it gets a horizontal slat in the lower part, which divides the grille into two parts. The part above is larger than the one below. Apart from this, the new five-door Thar also was seen with new LED projector headlights, which also had LED DRLs integrated into them.

On the powertrain front, Mahindra will most likely not offer any new engine option with this SUV. It will continue to offer the engines from the outgoing Thar three-door. Presently, the Mahindra Thar three-door model comes available with 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engine options in the four-wheel-drive variants. Reports have stated that the 5-door Thar will retain both of these engine options in a higher state of tune in order to have enough power to manage the addition of the added weight with new middle doors and other additions inside the cabin. As for the launch of the Thar five-door, most likely it will take place next year.
