0 130

Mahindra, one of the largest SUV makers, is gearing up for another launch this year. It is not the Mahindra Thar 5-door but the XUV300 facelift. Mahindra is expected to launch this facelifted version of XUV300 sometime in March. Just like the Mahindra Thar 5-door, we’ve been seeing a lot of spy images of this sub-4 meter SUV. From the images that have surfaced online, it is quite clear that the SUV will be getting a major update in terms of design, both outside and inside. The Mahindra XUV300 competes with cars like Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza in this segment. Will this facelift be enough to remain relevant in this highly competitive segment? We’ll soon find out.

XUV300 facelift

The Mahindra XUV300 was launched in India back in 2019. Since then, the SUV has not received any major updates. It was only recently that the SUV got a new T-GDI petrol engine which generates more power than the older unit.

In terms of design, the upcoming Mahindra XUV300 facelift will get a heavily revised front. From the images that have surfaced online, it looks like the SUV will come with a completely redesigned headlamp with a drop-down design for the dual-function LED DRLs. The design of the LED DRLs looks inspired by the XUV700. The headlamps are expected to be vertically stacked units with a projector for low beam and halogen or LED for high-beam.

The front grille and the front bumper will also see changes. Coming to the side profile, the design remains more or less the same. The major change here will be the alloy wheels. The 2024 XUV300 will get updated wheels, and we won’t be surprised if Mahindra decides to offer features like a 360-degree camera with this updated version. Will this upcoming version of XUV300 come with ADAS features like Sonet and Venue? It is something that we’ll have to wait and watch.

At the rear, more changes are visible. This has always been the not so good-looking part of this SUV. With the facelift, Mahindra is expected to make it look more appealing to customers. The SUV still remains under four meters; however, the manufacturer has now redesigned the tailgate, and it comes with a new LED tail lamp unit with a connecting LED bar. The bar runs across the width of the tailgate. We can also see a spoiler and redesigned rear bumper in the spy images. The position of the number plate has also moved from the tailgate to the bumper in this updated version.

While the current version of the Mahindra XUV300 did offer a decent number of features, the cabin looked outdated from day one. It felt old because it was taken from the Ssangyong Tivoli, which was already sold in international markets. With the updated version, Mahindra is more likely to offer a design similar to the one seen in the recently launched XUV400 EL Pro EV. The SUV would come with a heavily revised dashboard with a floating-type infotainment system, redesigned AC vents, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, Type C USB ports, and so on. The SUV would also get features like a panoramic sunroof, which is an extremely important feature for many car buyers lately.

Engine

Mechanically, the upcoming XUV300 facelift will remain the same. The SUV will be offered with two petrol and one diesel engine option. There will be a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 110 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with 6-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. Next is the Turbo variant which comes with a 1.2-litre Turbo petrol engine that generates 131 PS and 230 Nm of peak torque. This variant is available with a manual gearbox only. The third is a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine option that generates 115 PS and 300 Nm of peak torque. It is also available with a manual and AMT gearbox option.

The price for the current XUV300 starts at Rs 7.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.76 lakh, ex-showroom. With all these changes and updates, the XUV300 will definitely demand a premium. However, being a Mahindra product, we can expect a very competitive introductory pricing too.
