Mahindra XUV700 has been a blockbuster vehicle for the Indian brand. With the record numbers of bookings, the XUV700’s demand skyrocketed even further with the 5-star G-NCAP rating. This accident of the Mahindra XUV700 from Tamil Nadu proves how safe the crossover actually is in the real world.

The accident happened between Madurai and Trichy in Tamil Nadu. According to the details, the vehicle was doing about 80 km/h on cruise control. That’s when the owner noticed a dog crossing the road. To save the dog, the owner of the vehicle swerved steering towards his right.

Since the vehicle was doing high speeds, it rolled over multiple times and finally came to rest in the nearby fields. The vehicle turned turtled. The video shows that the car suffered a lot of damage from all around. However, all the pillars of the vehicle remain intact. All the occupants of the vehicle came out safely.

Being a crossover, the XUV700 is top-heavy. Which is why it can topple easily, especially while taking high-speed turns. The heavier upper body can make it roll easily. This is why one should be extra careful while driving SUVs and crossovers.

Mahindra XUV700 is 5-star rated

This was Mahindra’s second car to get a five-star rating after the Mahindra XUV300. Global NCAP awarded the five-star rating to the Mahindra XUV700 after it scored 16.03 out of a total of 17 points. The car’s structure is also rated as stable. The crash test also found that the potential injuries to the front passengers also remain marginal. The car has also received the highest points ever for a child safety rating. It scored 41.66 out of a maximum of 49, the highest for any made-in-India car.

Global NCAP tested the base variant of the Mahindra XUV700 that only gets two airbags, ABS and ISOFIX as standard. Mahindra offers as many as seven airbags with the top-end variant of the vehicle and there are features like ESC and ADAS available with the higher-end variants as well.

Driving on the Indian highways

Not only stray animals but many jaywalkers have been caught in the past in such videos. Riding or driving at such high speeds gives a very less reaction time, which can cause accidents. Riding at slower speeds allows the riders and drivers more time to avoid the collision course and even brake in time. Vehicles at higher speeds take much more time and distance to stop.

It is important to always maintain the speed limit on Indian roads to be safe. Even when the roads are empty, stray animals or cattle have unrestricted access to most of the roads, and they are highly unpredictable. Whenever any animal or cattle is spotted on the roads, the safest way is to reduce the speed. Many times the animals change their mind at the last moment and can change the direction of their way.

It is also important to slow down when riding through populated areas on the highways. Most Indian highways cross through major cities, and that’s where most such incidents can happen. The cattle and livestock of the locals and villagers can come to the highway and hit the vehicles. Also, this shows the importance of dashboard cameras and video cameras in India.
