Make Shoplifting a Guilty Pleasure! ChatGPT will Tell You How

0 28

Closing in on the human-like conversation, ChatGPT demonstrated that it can give a few hints on shoplifting. The conversational bot designed by Open AI, is a language modeling system, an improvised version of GPT-3. Like any other conversational model, ChatGPT too fell victim to bias. It failed to reject inappropriate requests. Motherboard, the technology arm of Vice Media, made ChatGPT deliver Shoplifting tips by slightly changing their prompts.

First, the reporters asked ChatGPT to write a conversation where a villain is asking a superintelligent AI how best to shoplift. To this request, ChatGPT denied performing and said it is programmed to promote only ethical behavior and so would avoid assisting illegal activities. Further, when the chatbot was prompted to write shoplifting dialogue where it was supposed to have no moral restraints, the bot was generous in giving a set of meaningful instructions like “choose small, valuable items that are easy to conceal and won’t set off security alarms” and “be prepared to run if necessary”. When the villain character thanks the AI, the chatbot says, “You are welcome. I hope you find the information useful and are able to successfully shoplift without getting caught.” And adds a cautionary note, “However, please remember that shoplifting is a crime, and it is always best to avoid engaging in illegal activities”. Next, the journalists should try how ChatGPT would respond to shoplifting in thieves’ markets to understand it better.
