Maruti Grand Vitara and Brezza waiting periods increase

The country’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited has been enjoying the massive success of two of its newest SUV launches in the country – the subcompact SUV Brezza and the compact SUV Grand Vitara. The company has been overwhelmed with the response from the buyers in India so much so that currently MSIL is sitting on an open order book of 73,000 units of the Brezza and over 56,000 pending orders of the Grand Vitara. The result of this massive booking list is that the wait times on both these SUVs have gone up extensively.

The waiting period on the Brezza as it stands is anywhere between three to four months. Although in Delhi the waiting period has also been quoted at 6 months as well. Similarly, the waiting period for the Grand Vitara is in the vicinity of two to four months in most cities. But a maximum waiting period of nine months in Noida and Ghaziabad has also been reported. It is to be noted that the number of units in the waiting periods mentioned above was from the start of November, so it is likely that the number could have also risen in the meantime. Also, it has been reported earlier that MSIL currently has a total of 3.38 lakh units of open orders for its entire lineup of cars in the country.

The company recently released its November sales figures, and according to MSIL, overall sales for the month grew 14.4% year over year (YoY) to 1.59 lakh units, up from 1.39 lakh units in the same month previous year. In November 2022, the manufacturer’s total domestic sales grew by 18.8% to 1.39 lakh units from 1.17 lakh units in November 2021. The carmaker also said that, altogether, sales in November included 135,055 domestically sold cars, 4,251 OEM-sold units, and 19,738 export-sold units.

Maruti Suzuki further reported that sales of compact segment vehicles like the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR increased from 57,019 units to 72,844 units, while sales of mini segment vehicles like the Alto and S-Presso increased from 17,473 units in November 2021 to 18,251 units in November 2022. Maruti Suzuki with the announcement of its sales tally for last month also added that the lack of electronic components had a little impact on the production of cars, particularly local models. The company in a regulatory filing also said that it “took all possible measures to minimize the impact.”

In other Maruti Suzuki news, the business recently announced a recall on a number of its vehicles, including the recently introduced Grand Vitara. The probable possibility of a problem in one of the child parts of the front seatbelts’ shoulder height adjustment assembly, which might lead to seat belt disassembly, has been cited as the cause of the recall.
