Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross (YTB)’s cabin spotted for the first time [Video]

Maruti Suzuki is on an SUV spree. A few months ago, it launched the second-generation Brezza (yes, it dropped the Vitara prefix) and just before the festive season, it has come up with the all-new Grand Vitara. Maruti Suzuki is now focusing on the next big rugged-looking offering based on the Baleno hatchback, which is touted to be called Baleno Cross. The new offering has continuously been witnessed under trial runs, and it has once again been spied on the roads of Delhi.

A recent video from ‘power drift’ on Instagram shows the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross being tested on the roads of New Delhi with a heavy amount of camouflage all around. However, a closer inspection hints that the new Baleno Cross is production-ready, as the test mule was spotted with production-ready lights and body panels all around.

The video starts with a glimpse of the rear profile of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross, which features a steeply-raked rear windscreen with a roof-mounted spoiler above and a sharp character line across the width of the car. The corners of the boot lid come with sharp-looking tail lamps, which in all likelihood will get LED inserts. Unlike the Baleno hatchback, the new Baleno Cross gets license plate housing placed on the boot lid.

Glimpse of the cabin

The side profile of the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross looks more or less like the second-generation Baleno, which was launched at the beginning of 2022. The video also shows a small glimpse of the cabin, which gets the same free-standing infotainment system as in the Baleno. It indicates that the Baleno Cross will get the same dashboard layout as the Baleno, though with different colour schemes for the cabin. Another small glimpse of the front profile of the Baleno Cross in the video indicates how the front profile of the car will look, which seems to be heavily inspired by the Grand Vitara with split LED headlamps and a wide grille with Z-shaped inserts in it.

The new Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross is expected to make its first public appearance at the Auto Expo 2023. It is said that the new Baleno Cross will mark a comeback of the 1.0-litre three-cylinder BoosterJet turbocharged petrol engine from the now-discontinued Baleno RS. This engine used to produce 100 PS of maximum power and 150 Nm of maximum torque, while it came mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine will likely be offered in the Baleno Cross in the same state of tune and with the same transmission choice, along with the option of a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
