Maruti Suzuki Innova HyCross-based badge engineered hybrid MPV rendered ahead of launch

We are all aware that the country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, is working on developing a premium MPV based on Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s Innova Hycross. Recently, reports suggested that the company could be naming it the Maruti Suzuki “Engage,” as the brand has recently trademarked this name in the country. However, besides this information, we do not have any insight into what this MPV could look like in real life. To help us imagine, a render of the Maruti Suzuki Engage premium MPV was recently created, giving us a glimpse of what the Maruti Suzuki’s top-of-the-line model could look like.

From the rendered image of the Maruti Suzuki Engage, we can see that the MPV could feature a slightly different exterior design from the outgoing Innova Hycross to differentiate the two models. For starters, we can expect the Engage to feature a grille similar to the one seen in the Grand Vitara and the Fronx crossover to bring it in line with Maruti Suzuki’s current design language. Additionally, we can note that it could boast a slightly different design for the front bumper.

At the moment, only the front of the Maruti Suzuki Engage has been rendered, but it is believed that the company could give the MPV a different rear-end design as well to set it apart from the Innova Hycross. Some people have speculated that it could get a rear-end design inspired by the XL6, but that is highly unlikely as the companies would have to create many different parts to execute this. Meanwhile, for the side profile, it should be mostly the same, except for slight design changes for the alloy wheels.

Most likely, Maruti Suzuki will offer the Engage premium MPV with the drivetrain options currently offered with the Innova Hycross. This implies that this MPV will be a petrol-only model with two engine choices: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 2.0-liter petrol-hybrid engine. While the 2.0-liter petrol-hybrid powertrain in the Innova Hycross claims a combined maximum power output of 184 bhp and a stellar fuel efficiency of 23.24 kmpl, the naturally aspirated petrol engine claims a combined maximum power output of 173 bhp and 209 Nm of torque.

In terms of features, we can expect the Indo-Japanese carmaker Maruti Suzuki to offer a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a digital driver’s display, dual-zone temperature control, and ventilated front seats in the Maruti premium MPV. Additionally, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera, and connected car technology are likely to be included.

On the safety front, the car could come equipped with front and rear parking sensors, up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control (VSC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and ADAS features, including lane-keeping and departure aid, adaptive cruise control, and auto-emergency braking.

Recently, while speaking to a media outlet, RC Bhargava stated, “We will be sourcing a vehicle from Toyota, which is a 3-row strong hybrid and top-of-the-line vehicle in terms of price. The volumes will not be very high, but it will be a path breaker.” More information on this forthcoming MPV is awaited, but as mentioned by RC Bhargava, this new MPV will be Maruti’s most expensive offering. At the moment, the flagship model from the brand is the mid-size SUV, the Grand Vitara, which is also a product of Maruti’s partnership with Toyota.
