Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Hiss’ Goes No. 1 Following Nicki Minaj Drama

0 22

On “Hiss,” Megan Thee Stallion made one thing clear: “I don’t give a fuck what y’all make trend. Bitch, I still win.” On Monday, she won.

After nearly a week of Nicki Minaj corroding her legacy by attacking Megan over a seeming “Hiss” diss, the song hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100. To celebrate, Megan asked her Hotties to focus on positivity and vaguely alluded to some of Minaj’s disrespect.

“Thank you thank you thank you! Thank you GOD, Thank you MAMA HOLLY,” she wrote, referring to her late mother Holly Thomas, whom Minaj dragged into her beef with Megan by asking her to “go conjure up your mother and apologize” on an Instagram Live, and claiming she was “lying on her dead momma” on “Hiss” response, “Big Foot.”

Minaj focused so much on Megan’s dead mother in her posts that the Texas cemetery where Megan’s mother is buried reportedly had to enhance their security measures and inform local police of the risk it faced after Nicki Minaj fans may have encouraged each other to desecrate her gravesite. (Nicki denied that she encouraged that behavior.)

“Thank you to [everyone] that took the time out of their week to go hard and make this happen! I love you I appreciate you I’m so grateful… likeeee #HISS is number 1 !!!” Megan added in her post on Monday. “Thank you for RUNNING IT UP HOTTIES. Let’s keep going hard and staying positive! Love yall.”

Since “Hiss” dropped on Jan. 26, Minaj incessantly talked and posted about Megan, rallied her Barbz, and released a diss of her own, “Big Foot,” focused entirely on the Houston rapper. Minaj claimed multiple times that Megan lied about being shot in the foot by Tory Lanez, that she “wanted a Rihanna moment so bad,” referencing Rihanna surviving domestic violence at the hands of Chris Brown, and posted photos of her two feet. (Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan.)

Unlike Minaj, Megan has said essentially nothing online about the Pink Friday 2 rapper since “Hiss” was released.

The root of Minaj’s beef with Megan? This line: “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law.” Minaj took the lyric as a reference to her husband Kenneth Petty’s status as a convicted sex offender.

It’s been a celebratory few days for Megan. At the end of last week, she revealed that she signed a deal with Warner Music Group to distribute and market her music, and that allows her to keep the rights to her master recordings and publishing.

“This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter of my life and career,” Megan said. “I’m really focused on building an empire and growing as an entrepreneur, so I’m proud to take this next step in my journey.”
